I've been told by people who don't read this that I should blog about my haircut.

I got my hair cut 2 weeks ago.

There, happy now?

Nothing major, just trimmed about a foot off, so its nice and short when I tie it up. It's really good for riding, as it doesn't get stuck behind your backpack or stick to your back. And its manageable enough that I can wash it without fuss. I think I'll try to keep it around this length from now on.

Someone else got their hair cut recently: David from work shaved his head for the "Shave for a cure" cancer charity last Friday. I'm not entirely sure if really wanted to do it or not: he made the silly comment that if everyone in our team put in $10 each, he'd do it. We all reached for our wallets without thinking, and he made a sad face at us. Short hair looks good on him though, but I had to do a double-take this morning when he tapped on my shoulder - I barely recognised him! I'm told I'm not the only one...

Gotan Project

On Friday night we were lucky enough to be present at Gotan Project's Australian premiere at the Perth Concert Hall for the Perth International Arts Festival. They've been around since 1999, but they only finally managed to make it to Australia just now. The hall was packed full and they didn't disappoint with their superb performance.

Gotan Project is a French and Argentinian group of musicians and DJ's that explore Tango music with contemporary electronic elements such as samples, beats and breaks to produce a truly unique mix of sounds. I only heard of them about about 2 years ago, but I fell in love with their sound instantly, understanding why they've got a cult following worldwide.

I hope they make it back to Perth soon, but realistically it'll be a few more years before they're back. In the mean time, I'm tracking down the CD's of theirs I don't already own :P

Trek 7.3FX Disc

Some years ago I retired my old, old bike for a shiny new mountain bike. Last week I upgraded that to a shiny new Trek 7.3 FX Disc hybrid (if the link doesn't work just click on the thumbnail above). Niaal from work just got one a week or two before for his birthday. He was very impressed with the improved performance over his cruddy old bike (which was like my old, old bike).

I agree. It's a very nice ride.

In addition to riding to and from work, we've been partaking in bringing in luncheon materials and sharing lunch between us. This is working out very economically - I haven't spent anything at work for the last two weeks! Which is good, because I can put that saving towards paying off the bike. It cost a pretty penny. Niaal got a really good deal on his bike through his dad, who knows a guy. It came all the way over from Sydney, and arrived at work in a cardboard box. I just bought mine from Anna at Bike Force down the road. Much less effort, but at a considerably higher cost. Oh well.

Good food + excermacise == healthy Chris. Even after just one week of riding into work I'm already feeling a lot better. Lets hope this trend continues.

heh you know what I did yesterday?

I caught the bus all the way home, saw my empty car port and was all like "dang. I drove into work this morning, didn't I?"

so I went back into town to pick it up

but I got to the bus stop and the bus was like 45 minutes away, so I decided "screw that, I'm walking"

got down the road and spied another bus stop down second ave for a different route, and the bus was only like 3 minutes away. caught that instead, so it all worked out.

its about a 45 minute walk if I walk all the way, so its all good

didn't work out so good for the other two girls that had the same idea. they didn't walk so fast, and just got to the corner as the bus was pulling away.

I guess they did some more walking

This short video is about how an autistic woman interacts with the world around her. It clears up a lot of misconceptions about autism in general, and opens up discussion on various philosophical questions.

Prior to watching this, I wouldn't have believed you that an autistic person was able to communicate with 'normal' people effectively, but here she's communicating more eloquently than most people I know.
